Current Internship Opportunities
Land Use and Transportation Intern
The Land Use and Transportation Intern supports District 4 Coalition’s efforts to strengthen neighborhood participation in land use and transportation decision-making processes.
Working under the guidance of D4C staff and a land use and transportation subject matter expert, the intern will research, organize, and develop a comprehensive Land Use and Transportation Manual for neighborhood associations. The manual will serve as a practical reference guide to help volunteers understand land use processes, transportation-related public engagement opportunities, and available City resources.
As part of the project, the intern will attend District 4 Coalition Land Use and Transportation Steering Committee and General Committee meetings to gain context, observe community priorities, and identify recurring questions and challenges faced by neighborhood leaders.
The internship combines research, technical writing, public policy learning, and community engagement. The intern will gain exposure to local government processes, neighborhood-based advocacy, and transportation and land use planning issues while producing a meaningful resource that supports community participation across Portland.
Education Intern
The Education Intern supports District 4 Coalition’s efforts to build the capacity of neighborhood associations through accessible, high-quality educational resources.

In addition, the intern will help improve the functionality and organization of the training website and develop standard operating procedures that will support future course development.
This internship combines curriculum design, educational technology, project management, content development, and community engagement. The intern will gain practical experience designing educational experiences for adult learners while helping strengthen neighborhood leadership across Portland.
