The League of Women Voters will host a Ranked Choice Voting education event open to the community on Saturday, September 28th, starting at 1 p.m. The event will be held at St. Thomas More Church Parish Hall, 3525 SW Patton Rd, Portland, OR 97221 and hosted by the Southwest Hills Residential League (SWHRL).

Ranked Choice Voting in Portland this November: Amplifying your voice

This year, Portlanders are using a new voting system to elect the city’s Mayor, Auditor and City Council. Instead of a primary followed by a general election, these positions will all be elected in a single November election using ranked-choice voting (RCV). Melanie will summarize the changes, then dive deeply into how to vote under the new system, to ensure that your vote counts to the greatest extent possible. This will be a strictly non-partisan, interactive workshop, including live voting in a mock RCV election.

Melanie Billings-Yun chairs the Portland League of Women Voters’ ranked-choice voting team and is a member of the League’s Charter Education Coordinating Committee. Previously, she was co-chair of the Portland Charter Commission, which crafted the changes to the city’s form of government and electoral system that were approved by voters in 2022 and will be implemented this November.

The District Four Coalition is a proud sponsor of the ice cream social. Tillamook ice cream sundaes, affogatos and allergen-free Italian ice flavors are provided by The Mobile Scoop Shop. Please help us have enough supplies on hand so each participant can have a treat at this public event by emailing contact@swhrl.org an RSVP with your three favorite ice cream flavors.

This is a family-friendly event, but parents must supervise their own children on the playground adjacent to the Parish Hall. A wheelchair ramp for easier access to the Parish Hall is located in the upper parking lot at the SW corner of SW Dosch and SW Patton.
