The Portland Police Bureau Training Division will be hosting its next Community Police Academy on Saturday April 18th.  We’d like four neighborhood association board members to attend.  This event will be an opportunity for PPB to demonstrate some aspects of police tactics and training practices that PPB officers receive.  Please let me know no later than March 27th if you have neighborhood association members wanting to attend.

The Community Police Academy is comprised of three settings: 1) an in-classroom portion, during which our lead training instructors will provide a rudimentary overview of their disciplines during a lecture format with a PowerPoint, 2) demonstrations and drills in a mat room or shooting range, and 3) a series of short scenarios (live action role plays) during which you will be given an opportunity to experience what officers may experience, including wearing the gear and using issued equipment.

We’ll hold two Information Sessions via Zoom (12:00 -12:30 pm on Wednesday, April 15th, and 6:00 -6:30 pm on Thursday, April 16th) to answer any questions participants may have about the CPA.  Details and links to the Zoom sessions are forthcoming. In the meantime, if you have any question, please don’t hesitate to email or call me.

At this CPA we’ll have approximately 25 participants to include members from the Community Board for Police Accountability (CBPA), Community Advisory Councils, Training Advisory Committee (TAC), Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing ( PCCEP), Focused Intervention Team Community Oversight Group (FITCOG), and Neighborhood Associations.
