| Coming Soon: Welcoming Week 2025 Portland is a Sanctuary City, and the Mayor recently addressed the City’s position during the ‘No Kings’ Protest on June 15. And, on July 31, Mayor Wilson shared this letter to community partners announcing an executive order to align Portland’s city policies with federal anti-discrimination laws to protect $349 million in grants, while reaffirming the city’s unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Since the protest, Civic Life continues to hear stories unique to the immigrant and refugee community, including how children and their parents are afraid to engage in everyday activities like walking in their neighborhoods or attending school and church. Civic Life has been in discussions with community leaders and the Mayor’s Office about the safety and mental health issues surrounding the immigrant and refugee community, and discussing the City’s participation in Welcoming Week. Following those discussions, we have learned that many community groups in Portland plan to hold events and rejoin hundreds of cities around the world to participate in Welcoming Week from Sept. 12 to 21, 2025. More information about these community-led events and how you can participate in Welcoming Week will be shared in the coming weeks via Rose City Connection or the City’s social media channels.
