| This 90‑minute interactive webinar, offered through the HUD Thriving Communities Technical Assistance (TCTA) program and developed in partnership with TREC, is designed to help practitioners better align housing strategies with transportation planning and investment decisions. Participants will explore when and how to consider housing within the transportation project lifecycle, with practical guidance on linking housing outcomes to transit investments, roadway improvements, and main street revitalization efforts. The session will introduce core housing concepts, planning considerations, and funding programs, and highlight best practices in housing development mechanisms, land use policy, and regulatory reforms that local governments can apply in different market contexts. The webinar blends concise instruction with peer learning, facilitated discussion, and breakout exercises focused on real‑world challenges. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of appropriate housing interventions by project phase, insights from peers facing similar constraints, and information on accessing HUD Thriving Communities Direct Technical Assistance for follow‑up support. |

| Jeri Mintzer, Assistant Vice President, Smart Growth America Jeri manages a variety of interdisciplinary projects on housing, zoning, and economic development, and leads technical assistance efforts to help local leaders make data-driven decisions about how and where to grow their communities. Jeri previously managed the Governors’ Institute on Community Design where she developed workshops for over 20 state leadership teams on issues of housing, transportation, smart growth, economic development, and more. Since 2011, Jeri has worked across a variety of SGA’s programs and disciplines, including advocacy campaigns, public engagement, and transportation reform. |
| Kyle Smith, Senior Manager in Housing and Community Development, ICF Kyle has 18 years of expertise at the intersection of housing, land use, and transportation, including local housing planning, transit-oriented development, and zoning reforms. He serves as Project Manager for the HUD Thriving Communities Technical Assistance program and chief subject matter expert for an FHWA Housing Coordination Guidebook for MPOs. For five years, he served as director of the Chicago-area Homes for a Changing Region program, which provided technical assistance to 15 municipalities to produce local housing plans. Kyle has degrees from Oberlin College and the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a past chair of the Illinois chapter of the Congress for New Urbanism. |
| Sumi Malik, Transportation Planning Director, ICF Sumi brings 20 years of experience as a multimodal transportation planner, increasingly focused on the intersection of transportation and housing. She serves as ICF’s Project Manager for the FHWA Housing Coordination Planning project, leading engagement with MPOs and other key stakeholders. Sumi leads studies on the integration of transit and land use, such as ODOT’s Transit and Housing Study. |
